Colonoscopy
A procedure used for visual examination of the Colon & Rectum is called Colonoscopy and it is performed with the help of a Flexible tube containing light and camera called Colonoscope.
A doctor will perform colonoscopy,if a patient shows any of the following symptoms:
Colonoscopy is helpful in detecting following diseases/disorders:
Colonoscopy begins with patient lying on their left side.Generally, a sedative (pain medication) is given to feel relax and drowsy.It is necessary to make patients comfortable and cooperative.Then, the doctor will gently insert Colonoscope (whose other end is connected to monitor) into the anus and slowly pass through the rectum and into the colon.To get the better images, the scope inflates the large intestine with carbon dioxide and doctor may ask you to change the position. Overall the procedure takes from 30 to 50 minutes.
